INCIDENT REPORT: (12/2/2022)

In light of the unfortunate incident during the first game of the last regular season round, the league committee convened and investigated the events that transpired.

Summary of events:

In an intense first half of the game, 2 players (1 from each team) were found to have played with an excessive level of physicality that led to an exchange of fouls (uncharacteristic of a basketball play). This led to both players getting thrown out for the remainder of the game. After being handed the decision from our referees, confrontation ensued which deescalated thanks to teammates who held their players back. Unfortunately continued verbal assaults and threats were thrown from Player B while Player A chose to ignore. This was when members of the audience decided to step in to attempt to deescalate the situation but were hurled insults as well. Player A's child and wife were present in the audience while threats were being made. The game resumed and ended but threats and insults continued and Player A's family was followed out of the parking lot as they were preparing to head home.

A police report was filed by Player A's family as a result of the incident.

Judgment:

After investigation by the league's committee, the initial decision to throw both players out was fair and that should have ended there. It was found that there were several chances for deescalation but Player B's behavior made it difficult. Even after deescalating and the game completing, Player B acted in a reckless and unsportsmanlike behavior stalking Player A's family out of the court and on to the parking lot. Because of these reasons, Player B will be banned from the PBL Elite league and will not be able to partake in any games for the remainder of the season and playoffs. As for Player A, the committee agrees that the punishment of not getting back in the game for the remainder of the time sufficed and no further punishment is required.

Details:

Physical plays from both Player A and Player B.

Player A received a hard foul from Player B.

Player A retaliated with a hard foul of his own.

This led to confrontation between the 2 players.

Both were handed technical fouls and ejected from the game.

Player A sat on the bench while Player B stayed on court seeking confrontation.

Audience members who were not part of the game approached Player B in an effort to deescalate, and justify actions.

Player B refused to disengage in aggressive behavior and continued hurling insults towards audience member and Player A.

Game resumed without further incident.

At the end of the game, Player B continued to engage in aggressive behavior.

Player A proceeded to leave the facility with his family. Player B continued to hound with verbal assaults following Player A to the parking lot.

Player A left the gym parking lot. Police report was filed.

No further incident.
